Rupestres: film and exhibition

Picasso and Soulages dreamed it… The RUPESTRES made it!

In September 2022, seven prominent graphic novelists were invited to embark on an artistic adventure unlike any other: for ten days, they left their studio behind to immerse themselves in the world of prehistoric artists. Working in a cave deep within the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park, close to the Pech Merle cave, they created images using the same techniques, materials and gestures as their Paleolithic predecessors. This unique encounter between contemporary artists and humanity’s earliest painters offers a fascinating exploration of the origins of art, revealing unexpected insights and inspiring discoveries.

Festilitt2026 is delighted to present this project:

– The exhibition features photographs by Rémi Flament, capturing the artworks created inside this inaccessible cave, together with original pages from the book « Pigments » published by Futuropolis. Friday 9 – Sunday 11 October. Salle des fêtes. 9.30 am – 12.30 pm / 2.00 pm – 6.00 pm (Closed during conference sessions)

– The documentary film. Archaeologist and prehistorian, Marc Azéma describes this exceptional artistic experience in the documentary Rupestres (2024 – 90mn). Friday 9 October – 8.00 pm. Salle des fêtes. Presented in collaboration with CinéParadisot and Quercynéma. Discussion with Troubs, one of the artists who took part in the project and book-signing session for Rupestres and Pigments. Admission is free. The evening will conclude with the official opening of the exhibition and the launch of Festilitt 2026.
